Modern Foreign Languages at Malvern
Modern Foreign Languages at Malvern are taught in a vibrant department. In addition to French GCSE in the lower school, pupils can also study German, Italian or Spanish. In the Sixth Form on offer are French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. We have also provided tuition in Norwegian, Swedish and Urdu. Almost three quarters of the Sixth Form study at least one modern language. At A-level, over 90% of pupils have scored grade C or above in the last ten years. In the IB, over 90% of pupils have scored one of the top three grades since its introduction in 1992. GCSE results in French, German and Spanish are routinely outstanding, with typically 70-80 % of pupils scoring A or A* at GCSE.
All pupils in the Foundation Year (Year 9) go to France to visit the WW1 battlefields and memorials; about half of the Remove Year (Year 10) go to France to visit the WW2 battlefields and memorials. Others go to Germany or Spain. There are also regular study visits to Italy and Spain.
