2nd XI Football v The Chase
21 January 2009
v The Chase
3 - 4
The midweek encounter against The Chase was a high-scoring game with end-to-end action, particularly in the second half. Malvern started much the better team and Soussi justly opened the scoring on twenty minutes with a trademark left-footed clinical finish. With five minutes remaining of the half, Feese scored to make it 2-0 in Malvern’s favour going into the break.
In the second half, however, the ‘route one’ tactics employed by The Chase started to have an effect. Consequently, the visitors were soon back on equal terms. Malvern regained their lead on fifty-seven minutes, however, through a superb strike from Velarde from outside of the penalty box (3-2). Again, the Chase responded with a very well placed strike to the bottom right-hand corner of the Malvern goal, just beyond the finger-tips of the diving Siviter. Unfortunately, within minutes the visitors scored again, and so The Chase took the lead for the first time in the match. There were several chances for the 2nd XI Malvernians to equalise, and indeed retake the lead. One effort was denied by the cross-bar, and another saw the ball actually cross over the visitors’ goal-line, but the incident was missed by the referee. Despite Malvernian efforts, it was not meant to be their day in a game that could have gone either way. Final score: Malvern 3 - 4 The Chase.
