Malvern Fencing Club
29 June 2007
The Malvern College Fencing team, a relatively new School club, performed well at a recent fencing competition "The Bromsgrove School Challenge" hosted by Bromsgrove School. Sisters, Maria and Lucy Henshall (No.8), Martin Legeland (SH), James Cullen-Loftus (No.9) and Leo Manibhandu (No.7) were the Malvern College team for this invitational event and came 2nd overall, an impressive achievement for such a new club. Lucy and Maria are already experienced fencers. Both girls competed in the Public Schools\' Fencing Championships 2007 with Lucy coming second in the Girls\' Mount-Haes Ep©e and Maria seventh in the Girls Junior Epee.
The team have certainly benefited from the excellent coaching skills of Lynne Melia (former Welsh champion) who has supported the club members magnificently. Next year, the team will be supervised by Rob Young, the current Sports Facilites Manager at the College and it is hoped that this fledgling club will go from strength to strength.
