New educational trust announces bursary programme

Some students will be eligible for bursaries being awarded by The Schools Competition Act Settlement Trust, established to support the further education of pupils from 50 independent schools.  Money has been made available by the 50 schools following an inquiry by the Office of Fair Trading into the exchange of fee information by the schools between 2001 and 2004.

Chairman of Trustees, Nigel Matthews OBE, said that the trustees were hoping for a good response from eligible pupils and wished particularly to attract applicants from those who had left school in the summer of 2002 and 2003 who were still engaged in further education.

Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age, must have been a pupil at one of the 50 schools after September 2001 and be engaged in futher education study.

Full details of the awards, the application criteria and how to apply are on the trust’s website at www.scast.org.uk
