Young Malvern

Week 1: Mon 26 – Fri 30 July

Week 2: Mon 2 Aug – Fri 6 Aug

Young Malvern is a non-residential holiday activity programme which has been running at Malvern College for 25 years. The idea is to give children between 8 and 13 years old a chance to try new activities with proper supervision and coaching.  The overall staff-child ratio is about 1:8 on all courses and there are about 40 activities from which to choose.  Young Malvern is non profit-making and each year we aim to give some 70 free places to children who would not otherwise be able to come.

Young Malvern is not only for the energetic child; there are courses in batik, pottery, technocraft, drama and animation as well as pursuits such as archery, sailing, tennis, kayaking, climbing, and football.  Recently we have introduced mountain-boarding, jewellery-making, basketball, scuba-diving, ultimate frisbee, lasertag, hockey and mosaic art.

Expert instruction is provided to coach the children in all their activities and to make sure that the courses are fun and enjoyable as well as instructive. The course fee covers the use of all equipment so there is no need for parents to go to extra expense.  Each activity organiser is assisted by at least one monitor, a boy or girl aged between sixteen and twenty, all of whom live locally and most of whom originally came to Young Malvern as children. Most activities also have a junior monitor, someone who is too old to attend Young Malvern, but who is still too young to be a monitor.

Young Malvern has become a regular summer feature for thousands of local children and their parents over the last 26 years, and has helped to forge links between Malvern College and the local community.

Please download and print out a copy of our brochure here (Young Malvern Brochure 2010).  Even better, fill in the booking form and reserve a place for the summer!
