Golf Fixture - Malvern v Bromsgrove

02 May 2005

For the second game of the season a very strong and much changed Malvern squad took on a powerful Bromsgrove team at The Worcestershire Golf Club. Conditions were difficult with gusts of wind, and there was a possibility of showers. The College\'s first pair of Carlos Schmit (2) and Rohan Malhotra (7) knew they were in for a tough game when an England schoolgirl stood on the first tee as a member of the opposition\'s first pair. The second pair comprised of Severin Lubke (1) and Justus Garbe (9), the latter making his debut and the final pairing comprised of the unbeaten combination of William Williams (2) and Charlie Griffiths (5). Unfortunately, they were unable to maintain their form, losing four and three. Happily, the reverse occurred for the other two pairs with both winning close and hard fought encounters. Severin and Justus knew that their result was crucial and playing some well managed and skilful golf; they came back from one down to win two and one. Carlo and Rohan took the game to the opposition and despite the difficult conditions stormed around the course winning six and five. Between them, they finished with a better ball score of six under par which was a remarkable achievement on such a blustery day. This was a great result for the Malvern Golf team and with many pupils joining the Worcestershire Club things are looking very positive. The Squad will have its first coaching session with the professional at the Worcestershire with money kindly donated by the Old Malvernian Association. This will provide a great benefit to the squad.Final score Malvern 2, Bromsgrove 1
