The Golf Season Begins
25 April 2005
On a lovely afternoon, arguably the first day of the summer, the College Golf team travelled to Cirencester with a young but very able team. The course was in excellent condition and Carlo Schmitz (2) took over the captain\'s role for the first time. In fact it must be said that he fulfilled his potential and led by example beating both his opponents with comparative ease and putting Malvern in a very strong position. Charlie. Griffiths (5) was playing at number two and returned an excellent round; he lost to his Marlborough counterpart on the seventeenth green but beat the Oxford opposition and played well under his handicap which will boost his confidence for the rest of the season. William Williams (2) played as the third string and recorded a similar result. Severin Lubke (1) had an excellent afternoon beating both of his opposing players with ease on the fifteenth hole and played to his handicap. James Currie (1) fought back from three down to halve his match against his Marlborough opposition and beat his Oxford counterpart and finally Arjun Malhotra lost both his matches in a very close and tense competition as the sixth player. With Lower sixth examinations now over some more players will now become available. During the coming season Malvern has the potential to field its strongest team for many years.Final results.Malvern beat St Edwards Oxford 5-1Malvern lost to Marlborough 3 and a half to two and a half.
