A busy week for Girls Hockey

02 December 2009

1st XI Girls Hockey v. St Edwards School, Cheltenham
1-1
Last Wednesday the 1st XI girls hockey team drew 1-1 with St Edwards School, Cheltenham. They took the lead in the second half but the opposition equalised in the dying minutes. Charis Williams was player of the match.

U/16 Hockey Tournament
Later that day a very young team took part in the U/16 Indoor County Hockey tournament, playing against girls one or two years their senior. They narrowly lost 2-1 to Bromsgrove and were beaten 3-1 by the Chase, but it was a very good learning experience. Lydia Brand was Malvern\'s player of the tournament.

Girls Hockey v Christ College, Brecon
On Saturday the 1st XI produced their best performance of the season against a strong Christ College, Brecon side. They drew 0-0 but this was a big improvement on their 2-1 loss last year. It was such a committed team effort that no one individual could be singled out as player of the match.
The juniors also played Christ College, Brecon in what proved to be very thrilling games. The U/15a won 2-0 thanks to some very good work in defence, midfield and attack. Sarah Richardson was named joint player of the match for her defensive play along with Vicky James who was impressive in attack, scoring both goals. The U/14a team played with excellent maturity and effort in an extremely close 1-1 draw. Their distribution and tackling was very good, with Hattie Darling judge as the best player.
