Lacrosse v Uppingham School
11 September 2007
1st X11
After a long coach journey, the Malvern team arrived at Uppingham ready for the first fixture of the season. Uppingham managed to score a few early goals with the down hill advantage, but it wasn\'t long before Malvern got their head in the game to make the score 4-4 at the half time whistle, goals from Becky Tildesly, Jane Brierly, Tori Barley and Hannah Jefferson. The second half opened with some dangerous checks from both sides, giving Malvern the opportunity for shots on goal, putting them in the lead. The final quarter of the match showed players at their best, great pressure from the Malvern defence keeping Uppingham away from the goalkeeper, Dominique Ferario. The attack worked well to keep possession resulting in a last minute goal. Final score 6-5 to Malvern.
2nd X11
The first match of the season was very encouraging, despite losing 6-3. Even though Uppingham scored the first goals, Malvern responded quickly with goals from Clare Hughes and two from Gabbi Dain. The attack was very strong and there were many more attempts on goal than points scored, which is a promising for the first match. Teamwork from the attack was particularly impressive from Hermionie Benset, Gabbi Dain and Fion Lee. As the match went on, the whole team became much more vocal and determined in picking up ground balls. Overall, it was a very promising start to the season.
