Dr Henric Atlink, Chairman of the Board of Studies in History says “In a department such as ours it is the students who make our work continually stimulating and interesting. We have enjoyed having Maximilian with us for the last three years”.

21/07/2010

On the 17th June 2010 a further group of 30 pupils made a visit to the chemistry department at Warwick University. This time the visit was for 13-16 years old, and the task again was to synthesise and purify aspirin. The ability of such young pupils to rise to this challenge undaunted was amazing. The pupils all enjoyed the experience as did Dr Watson and Mrs Packham who accompanied the pupils. We are continuing our link with Warwick’s chemistry department and have our next lower school visit planned for Tuesday 29th March 2011. In the ....

21/07/2010

Once again the College’s Chemistry department was able to welcome a group of twelve year six pupils from The Elms Preparatory school. The pupils enjoyed making solutions change colour, causing their reactions to become hot and cold, as well as making a rainbow in a test tube! They also watched some exciting chemical demonstrations including the ‘howling jelly baby’ which this year caused amusement by not only jumping out of the test tube, but then getting stuck in the neck of the tube! This was followed by a very bright redox flash as magnesium displaced silver in a ....

21/07/2010

Dear Parents, It was a source of much pleasure to see so many of you at this year’s Commemoration, and judging from the feedback it sounds like the new format was met with approval all round. As far as the House is concerned, much has been achieved in spite of the demands of the public exams, which spanned very nearly the whole term starting with the IB in Week Two and concluding with A?level papers in the final week. The Seniors managed to retain the Senior Cricket Cup, beating No.5 in a tight match that turned on a deft ....

21/07/2010

Matthew Withnall (pictured) reigned supreme in the FY play, "Wyrd Sisters", which ran for two nights at the end of the Summer term. It was a superb production involving four members of the No.5 FY who rehearsed long and hard throughout the term; the audience was richly rewarded with what was a fine performance. Matthew was complimented on his skill on stage and I am sure that he will be one for the future - watch this space!
