08/07/2010

Warm congratulations to our IB pupils on the very fine results achieved in the recent examinations. We are particularly pleased to announce that Stephanie Schöhl scored the perfect 45 (out of 45), a truly brilliant achievement. Cindy Cheng and Anna Wagner each achieved 44 points and no fewer than 16 candidates attained 40 points or more. Our average point score is 35.3. Well done to our IB cohort; it has been a splendid year of all-round achievement.

21/06/2010

The Malvernian Society welcomed over 100 guests to the School House Reunion. After a Chapel Service led by the College Chaplain, Rev. Andrew Law, OMs and their guests were entertained to drinks and lunch in the Gryphon Room. In the afternoon, OMs were able to visit their old House, where the Housemaster, Jamie Russell, displayed over 100 years of House memorabilia. There were also optional tours and talks and plenty of cricket, where the 1st XI beat local rivals Dean Close by 9 wickets. We hope that OMs of No.2 will have had their appetites whetted for their Reunion on ....

11/06/2010

There was an excellent turn-out of OMs at the quarterly gathering in London. Pleasingly, there were a lot of young OMs there to meet the four members of Common Room who attended - Paul Godsland (Senior Master), Chris Hall (Head of Science), Stephen Holroyd (Head of Economics), and Ian Quickfall who has recently retired from the Economics and Politics department. The next gathering at the Citie of York pub will be on Monday 4th October. News of who is attending from Common Room will be posted on the website in early September.Syd HillSecretary, Malvernian Society.

26/04/2010

On Thursday 24th March twenty two members of the Remove and Hundred, accompanied by Mrs. Packham and Dr Watson, visited the Chemistry department at Warwick University to spend the day experimenting in the brand new state of the art undergraduate teaching laboratory. On arrival we were met, with great enthusiasm, by Nick Barker the Chemistry department’s Outreach Programme teaching fellow. He had organised a ‘tutor’ (either post-graduate or postdoctoral researcher) to work closely with groups of four pupils. The task that the pupils were set was the synthesis and subsequent re-crystallisation of Aspirin. The pupils ....

01/04/2010

About six months ago Katya Berger showed great initiative in suggesting that the College might hold an international conference aimed at promoting awareness of the need to protect the planet. On Friday 19th March her initiative bore fruit with an address by Martin Normanton at the Climate Change conference which took place at the school. Well-supported by the Green Committee and Mrs Lorraine Atkins the conference was a success and some recommendations emerged which could passed on by those present to their communities world-wide.

19/03/2010

There are approximately 1 million 15 year olds in the country. About 50,000 of those took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge this month. Lennart Kück came in the top 500 and will progress to the next round! This places him in the top 1% of all Maths Challenge participants and the top 0.05% of all 15 year olds; it is a result which is 70 times rarer than an A* at GCSE.
