14/07/2010

Keep your eye on Tom Kohler–Cadmore, 15-year-old county cricket prospect who has been taken on by the Worcestershire County Cricket Club Academy. He is a boarder at Malvern College (No.5) and is well placed to take advantage of all the school can offer. Malvern has built a brand new Sports Complex which was opened last year where the Cricket Centre was officially opened by former England captain, Michael Vaughan. The Cricket facilities at the school are used by WCCC for their winter training programme. Steve Rhodes, Director of Cricket feels that the partnership with the College is going ....

01/07/2010

On Tuesday 29th June we played our final fixture of the year against Scotch College- a 1400 strong boys school from Melbourne. We won the toss and decided to bat on a good wicket that might offer turn for our spinners after the break. We batted well in the mid-innings with Arthur Jones scoring his maiden 1st XI fifty and Odge Davey 87. Both players offered impetus after a slow start and we reached 219 in our 40 overs after setting out an original goal of 200 as a par score. Scotch College got off to a good start and took ....

29/06/2010

The 1st XI played a touring side called the Blue Leopards last Sunday which was made up of players from the Cape Town region from schools such as Wynberg and Bishops - so was a strong unit. We were missing some senior boys due to exam pressure and Francis Burke and Liam Charlton and Freddie Martin stepped up. We lost the toss and were put in the field. We bowled well with the new ball and very well with the middle innings spin and restricted them to 162 in 40 overs. Cadmore and Harwood both bowled some good areas on ....

1st XI Cricket v Clifton College

29/06/2010

Last Saturday the 1st XI played Clifton College. We lost the toss and were put in the field. We bowled well early on with Chris Harwood especially bowling some testing lengths. The Clifton boys batted sensibly but runs flowed with wickets in hand and our ground fielding was poor. Although we put them under pressure in the middle innings, runs leaked at the death with some sloppy fielding and they ended on 249-8 in 50 overs. Although this seemed a challenging total, the pitch was great, the outfield was rapid and we have chased well all year. We started the ....

1st XI Cricket v Harrow

26/06/2010

Hosted by Harrow in our annual cricket fixture we stayed overnight in advance of the game and were entertained a wonderful dinner. As always this is a very sociable occasion. The cricket itself was more disappointing for us. After pushing Harrow so close last year we wanted to give our Upper Sixth boys (who had to miss Saturdays fixture due to exam pressure) the best chance of gaining a memorable victory away from home. Unfortunately the depth and talent of Harrow proved too much as they posted 326 in their 55 overs losing 7 wickets in the process. There were some ....

25/06/2010

Another tough match for Malvern with Freddie Martin the yearling making his debut.St Peters won the toss and batted first scoring 250-9 in 53 overs. Chris Harwood bowled superbly but the accolades go to Will Wright who took his maiden five wicket haul for the Eleven. Our batting looked frail but we applied ourselves and, after losing quick wickets, dug in for a well deserved draw with Freddie Martin scoring 29 and Bar Bartlett 36 getting stuck in.
23/06/2010

On Saturday 19th June Malvern College pupils performed well in the cold and windy conditions - they were representing Herefordshire and Worcestershire County in the prestigious Mason Trophy meeting at the Alexander International Stadium in Birmingham. Rebecca Raby-Smith broke her own school record in the Intermediate girls 300 metres for the third time this term, recording 43.5 seconds when finishing 3rd in her race. This ranked her in 7th place over all in this Midlands Region Competition amongst several girls a year older. Vicky Moritz, who also has another year in the Intermediate age group, ran a tactically astute race ....
