21/07/2010

Dear Parents, It was a source of much pleasure to see so many of you at this year’s Commemoration, and judging from the feedback it sounds like the new format was met with approval all round. As far as the House is concerned, much has been achieved in spite of the demands of the public exams, which spanned very nearly the whole term starting with the IB in Week Two and concluding with A?level papers in the final week. The Seniors managed to retain the Senior Cricket Cup, beating No.5 in a tight match that turned on a deft ....

21/07/2010

Matthew Withnall (pictured) reigned supreme in the FY play, "Wyrd Sisters", which ran for two nights at the end of the Summer term. It was a superb production involving four members of the No.5 FY who rehearsed long and hard throughout the term; the audience was richly rewarded with what was a fine performance. Matthew was complimented on his skill on stage and I am sure that he will be one for the future - watch this space!

14/07/2010

Keep your eye on Tom Kohler–Cadmore, 15-year-old county cricket prospect who has been taken on by the Worcestershire County Cricket Club Academy. He is a boarder at Malvern College (No.5) and is well placed to take advantage of all the school can offer. Malvern has built a brand new Sports Complex which was opened last year where the Cricket Centre was officially opened by former England captain, Michael Vaughan. The Cricket facilities at the school are used by WCCC for their winter training programme. Steve Rhodes, Director of Cricket feels that the partnership with the College is going ....

01/07/2010

Margaret Barnes has worked at Malvern College for 32 years. From catering to laundry, there is not a job that she has not done. On Wednesday 30th June, under a cloudless sky, No.5 past and present came together for a tea party in the garden to wish Margaret the happiest of retirements. She has been a friend and colleague to so many people over the years and a very, very loyal servant of No.5.

30/06/2010

Flying high on the rides at Drayton Manor Park, the Ellerslie House girls celebrate the end of their busy year! The weather was beautiful and the trip was a perfect way to relieve exam stress. Many thanks to the House Council for suggesting the trip, to Alba Zimmermann our Social Rep and Mr and Mrs Godsland, Mrs Angus and Mr Davidson for coming along. A repeat trip is already being planned for next year!

30/06/2010

Dave Burley brought to an end his family\'s 80 years\' barbering service to Malvern College by trimming a few of the SH barnetts in the penultimate week of the summer term. Mr Russell\'s presented less of a challenge than, say, George Homfray\'s or Gad Shawcross\'s or indeed the uniformity of the Remove and 100 chaps - Jake Cripwell, Henry Salmon, James Philip, Felix Riedl-Riedenstein and Dan Williams. Nonetheless, it was a privilege for them all to be the last in a very, very long line of Malvernians to have had their haircut by a member of the the Burley ....

29/06/2010

The inter-House rounders tournament took place on a very hot and sunny Saturday afternoon last weekend. No.8 started slowly but by the end were in excellent form with particularly impressive performances from Clare Ho and Hayaka Amada with Hebe Morgan bowling very consistently. Unfortunately they were not quite good enough for the strong teams from No.3 and No.4 but nevertheless achieved a very creditable third place. They were undoubtedly in first place for participation and support with the entire Remove, FY and several Sixth Formers taking part.

29/06/2010

The No.5 Junior Athletics team enjoyed a great day at the annual Sports Day. They finished winners of the Junior competition with Charlie Buiskool (pictured doing the high jump) contributing enormously to the success of the House. Charlie, Demi Onabowale and Matthew Withnall all ran well in their track events which saw No.5 come out as comfortable Junior winners on the day, watched keenly by the Chairman of the College Council, Lord Maclaurin, an ex No.5 pupil.

28/06/2010

Camping does not normally throw up images in one\'s mind of storytelling but instead images of rained off summer holidays come to mind. However, on the 18th June, the skill of storytelling was perfectly combined when three FY girls from No.4 went to The Downs, Malvern Prep School to tell stories to the young children there doing a charity camping event. As the sun was fast disappearing behind the Malvern Hills, three intrepid volunteers Natasha Riley, Sibyl Beaumont and Felicity Williams did some acting, singing and most of all exciting story telling to about thirty children of all ages around ....

24/06/2010

Returning from the half-term, many of the girls had examinations and the L6th were planning to take part in a charity walk. So we decided that it was time for some fun for the Juniors and along with three other Houses, a group of No.3 girls disappeared off Drayton Manor for a wonderful day out in the sunshine. It was a great trip and they cannot wait to go again soon!On Wednesday 16th June we celebrated an early Bastille Day with the French themed birthday supper.
24/06/2010

The last few weeks of the summer term are always very busy and the examination stress takes its toll on everybody. Hence it was just the right tonic to the frenetic Summer term for the Junior girls in Houses 3, 4, 6 and 8 to go on the 11th June at the early hour of 8.30am to Drayton Manor Park. We had been praying that the weather would be kind to us and we were rewarded with a perfect summer\'s day. The only time pupils got wet was when they were on the water rides.
23/06/2010

On Saturday 19th June, the Mason Trophy Athletics Meeting took place in the Alexander International Stadium in Birmingham. Several of Malvern College\'s students had a very successful time competing there while representing the Herefordshire and Worcestershire County. Our very own Remove girl, Rebecca Raby-Smith, broke her own school record in the Intermediate girls 300 metres for the third time this term. She recorded an amazing 43.5 seconds when finishing third in her race. This ranked her in 7th place over all in this Midlands Region Competition amongst several girls a year older.
