21/07/2010

Maximilian Velarde (OM) has secured a 1st class Honours degree in History from The University of York. Dr Henric Atlink, Chairman of the Board of Studies in History says “In a department such as ours it is the students who make our work continually stimulating and interesting. We have enjoyed having Maximilian with us for the last three years”.

21/07/2010

On the 17th June 2010 a further group of 30 pupils made a visit to the chemistry department at Warwick University. This time the visit was for 13-16 years old, and the task again was to synthesise and purify aspirin. The ability of such young pupils to rise to this challenge undaunted was amazing. The pupils all enjoyed the experience as did Dr Watson and Mrs Packham who accompanied the pupils. We are continuing our link with Warwick’s chemistry department and have our next lower school visit planned for Tuesday 29th March 2011. In the ....

21/07/2010

Once again the College’s Chemistry department was able to welcome a group of twelve year six pupils from The Elms Preparatory school. The pupils enjoyed making solutions change colour, causing their reactions to become hot and cold, as well as making a rainbow in a test tube! They also watched some exciting chemical demonstrations including the ‘howling jelly baby’ which this year caused amusement by not only jumping out of the test tube, but then getting stuck in the neck of the tube! This was followed by a very bright redox flash as magnesium displaced silver in a ....

12/07/2010

‘Wyrd Sisters’ by Terry Pratchett, adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs Wednesday 30th June / Thursday 1st July 2010Based on the popular Discworld novel, Stephen Brigg’s theatrical adaptation takes its audience into a world of witchcraft, court intrigue and comedy daggers. A totally absurd piece of theatre, part fairy tale, myth and legend, Pratchett’s novel unashamedly parodies Shakespeare\'s Macbeth. The cast and crew of over 60 Foundation Year students certainly provided a thoroughly entertaining evening for their audience. This production was a constant delight to watch due to being close in proximity to the actors, with Steve Doidge’s thrust ....

08/07/2010

Warm congratulations to our IB pupils on the very fine results achieved in the recent examinations. We are particularly pleased to announce that Stephanie Schöhl scored the perfect 45 (out of 45), a truly brilliant achievement. Cindy Cheng and Anna Wagner each achieved 44 points and no fewer than 16 candidates attained 40 points or more. Our average point score is 35.3. Well done to our IB cohort; it has been a splendid year of all-round achievement.

23/06/2010

For most of the pupils, Lottie Rugeroni is foremost remembered as one of the Senior Chapel Prefects for the academic year that has just finished. For most of the parents, she is remembered more recently for her stunning singing performance during the Commemoration Day speeches. Rebecca Stephens, the guest speaker at Commemoration, also included Lottie in her address as someone to admire as Lottie is following her dreams by applying to singing courses for her gap year. We have just heard the good news that Lottie has gone the first step towards achieving her dream of singing and acting ....

21/06/2010

SHAKESPEARE’S ‘AS YOU LIKE IT’ - OPEN AIR THEATRE PERFORMANCEGRYPHON ROOM LAWN, SPORTS COMPLEXOn Sunday 20th June Malvernians, parents and staff were treated to a new cultural presentation by the Drama department. Director of Drama Keith Packham had chosen to present the inaugural performance at the newly constructed Open Air Theatre on Midsummer’s Eve, and thankfully the temperamental English weather played its part, bathing the audience in a quintessentially English summer evening to rival anything London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre could muster! The latest offering from the Drama department was a revival of the Shakespeare Schools Festival production presented at ....

19/05/2010

A \'Fly-in\' by James Weaver on Wednesday this week to Malvern College, his old school, was an inspiring demonstration of how hard work and application can make a career of the thing you most dream of doing in your adult life. Flying Officer, James Weaver (Old Malvernian 1998 -2003) landed in a Squirrel helicopter at the Malvern College playing fields, en-route for Yeovil air base, on a routine navigational exercise. He was accompanied by fellow pilot Lieutenant Richard Knight and their instructor Mr Guy Gibbons. As the helicopter lifted up very neatly and headed off to Somerset ....
