House No. 2
The boys in No.2 feel that they are not a ‘specialist’ House, but that they do specialise in welcoming and encouraging people with all manner of skills and talents and all are treated equally, from the Chopin-playing, philosophy-loving academic to the lumbering Welsh rugby fanatic! The atmosphere in No.2 is one of comfort, fun and purpose; boys are comfortable with themselves and make their friends in an environment where everyone gives 100% and has fun along the way. There is a sense of success in teamwork which the boys enjoy so much. Bert Lacey says, “My philosophy is that it is not my House but the boys’ House. I welcome boys who will add to the richness of the place and, even as young as they are, assume some share of the responsibility for keeping the place ‘ship-shape’, working alongside each other with no barriers generated by year group, age or position.”
Burns Night dinner in No.2
Friday 12. of February 2010
On a suitably cold, wet and snowy evening the boys of No.2 recently celebrated their annual Burns Night dinner. To celebrate the 251st birthday of the great Scottish poet Robbie Burns, the House enjoyed trenchers full of the ‘Chieftain of the pudding race’, beautifully presented by Kaye, the House chef. Mr Lacey performed, with as much enthusiasm and gusto as ever, Burns’ poem, ‘Ode To a Haggis’. This traditional formality being over, the boys were finally given the opportunity to dig into a haggis.
With the sounds of happily eating boys and Mr Lacey’s words still ringing in their heads, another successful No.2 Burns night was concluded.
Arthur Wakeley wins the Pritchard Trophy
Thursday 10. of December 2009

A thrilling final to the Pritchard Trophy in the run up to the Christmas holiday saw No.2's Arthur Wakeley, storm from behind to an epic victory. Having lost the first two sets to Will Vanston (No.9), Arthur came out for the third game with a determined look upon his face, and after a tight game, which he eventually took, he hit form and took the final two games with some excellent play, moving his feet well and serving with pin-point accuracy. This was a fine way to bring the term to a close and will no doubt give Arthur a terrific boost as he heads off to Queen's Club for the Schools' tournament in the first week of the holidays.
