House No. 4

Anne Sharp and her husband Tom, are have been in House No.4 since 2003. Anne teaches English and Drama at Malvern. Together with their four children Hugo, Constance, Ralph and Guy, they aim to establish a friendly family atmosphere in No.4. Girls are encouraged to develop their skills on the sporting, drama and musical front and working together as a team is very much part of the ethos of the House. With its reputation for brightly painted walls, its legendary bright red dining room and its cosy sofas, No.4 is a comfortable place to board and a home within the College for the girls under Anne’s care.
The gripping final of the Hart General Knowledge quiz

The date had arrived. The 28th February signalled the show down between the arch rivals No.4 and No.2. Who was going to be the brainiest House for the next 12 months? No.4 had beaten No.2 last year and they were keen to grab the trophy back from us. However, we had put together a strong team of girls with Poppy Andrews, Caroline Varga, Poppy Donaldson and Natasha Riley and we looked invincible. Indeed, it seemed as if we would just keep ahead of the strong team from No.2, especially after our successful joker round on science and technology where we scored double marks for correct answers. However, No.2 had fielded an equally strong team and they were able to inch ahead on the last round of current affairs where they played their joker to devastating effect. In the end, despite No.4 winning the final picture round, No.2 ended with just three points ahead of us and took the trophy back from us. Never mind. There is always next year!
The luckiest House of all!

No.4 were very fortunate indeed last night as they were the hosts to the inter-house baking competition in aid of the Haiti earthquake appeal. One of our Lower Sixth, Tessa Doppstadt, had been inspired to do the event to raise money to help the people of Haiti. Nearly all the Houses took part in the event and produced some magnificent creations ranging from a Disney Castle to brownies in the colours of No.2. Three teachers kindly undertook the role of judging the best cakes and we would like to thank Mr Hall, Mrs Godsland and Mr Allen for giving up their time on Sunday evening to do the tasting and assessing of the entries. It was hard to select the winning cakes but Alex Endelmann, Kathryn Nolan and Katay Berger of No.8 won for the girls and Louis Jackson and Niccolo Genghini of No.9 won for the boys. The cakes were all then sold at break-time on Monday with lots of people praising not just the taste but the artistic merits of some of the cakes.
