House No. 7

Dan Eglin joined the College in September 2008 as Housemaster of No.7. He is married to Anna and they have two young sons, Harry and Joshua. Dan is a keen sportsman and enjoys rugby, football and tennis. He is also very much involved in the CCF in which he encourages pupils to develop leadership skills. In his spare time he enjoys furthering his interest in photography.
Dan believes that the happiest and most successful boys are those that keep themselves busy and he encourages all to develop interests for which they have a passion. He hopes that all boys in No.7 will throw themselves into the spirit of the House competitions, as he feels this is an excellent way for all members of the House to feel valued in the House community.
No.7 Win "Best Entertainment"award for House Play
Friday 26. of February 2010
The boys of No.7 were proud and delighted to be awarded "Best Entertainment" for their abridged production of ‘The Lion King’. While most houses elected to present a one act play, our boys opted for a well known musical, a challenging project given that much of the audience would have high expectations.
Pavel Baskakov, Director, did an excellent job of cutting the script to suit the time constraints. He also had some very imaginative ideas for including some of the songs and was ably supported by his production team. He did a fine job of getting the best out of the actors who all did fantastically well at getting into their animal characters. The cast was as follows:
Mufasa Pavel Baskakov
Simba Ollie Greensted and Joshua Butt
Naala Sam Heappey
Scar Arslan Arkallaev
Zazoo Murat Arkallaev
Hyenas Pete Apikasemsunt, Sanzhar Abishev, Carlo Soravia
Rafiki Ugonna Odenigwe
Timon Matthew Hogan
Poomba Henry Loze
Flamingo Saul Butt
Stampede Martin Aleksandrov, Alexey Kurdakov, Christian Plump
Technical Herb Sothisiri, Jonathan Dos Santos, Johnny Lee
Back-Stage Ladi Lanre-Ladenegan, Karn Jitsakula
Dr Walters, one of three judges, said of the play: "No.7's The Lion King was a well directed and highly entertaining production. In undertaking to present a play based on a film they attempted something risky, but they succeeded in engaging and winning their audience through thoughtful characterization, bold and intelligent stagecraft, and understated comic performances. The technical crew draw a special mention for their professionalism in executing a range of lighting, sound and visual cues."
Thanks must go to Mrs Gwyn Sloan who helped the boys to look their animalistic best!
Well done to the boys for choosing something completely different. All boys did an excellent job of their parts and it was a pleasure to see them enjoying the Arts.
FY Rackets Win for Greensted
Friday 05. of February 2010
Ollie Greensted (No.7) wrapped up the FY Rackets Championship today with ease. The tournament took the form of a “Round Robin” of the eight best players, three of whom are in No.7. Ollie faced the very able Racketeer Ben Cooke (No.5). Ben made an excellent start and took an early lead with some excellent shots. However, when Ollie got the chance his serve got him into the match and he won the first game 15-8. Oliie then ran away with the second game winning 15-1 again thanks to his excellent serve and hardened match experience.
Mr Tim Roberts, Master in Charge of Rackets, was very impressed by the standard of play throughout and felt that several of the points were of a standard equal to any of that played by the recent yearlings pairs.
Ollie and Ben and also Freddie Martin have played as the FY 1st Pair and have enjoyed an excellent year so far having only lost one match. They are very much looking forward to playing at Queens’ Club at the end of the year. With the planned refurbishment of the courts and lots of keen young players, the future certainly looks bright for the Rackets at Malvern College.
