No.8 (Girls)  - Malvern College

House No. 8

No.8  is a warm and friendly House where the accommodation is spacious. It is a welcoming place where the aim is to provide all girls with the facilities and the care that will enable them to enjoy school.

Pam Richardson, their Housemistress, regularly organises social events for the girls as well as evening functions for parents so that they can get to know the staff and each other better. Pam has been at the College since 1992 when she moved to Malvern from Ellerslie School as a teacher of French and Italian. She and her husband Andy have four children, Daniel, Laura, Lydia, and Richard, and they are all fans of rugby. Pam’s other main interests are playing the piano, walking and good food and wines.

Inter-House Rounders Tournament

Tuesday 29. of June 2010

The inter-House rounders tournament took place on a very hot and sunny Saturday afternoon last weekend. No.8 started slowly but by the end were in excellent form with particularly impressive performances from Clare Ho and Hayaka Amada with Hebe Morgan bowling very consistently. Unfortunately they were not quite good enough for the strong teams from No.3 and No.4 but nevertheless achieved a very creditable third place. They were undoubtedly in first place for participation and support with the entire Remove, FY and several Sixth Formers taking part.

No.8 Summer Barbecue and Concert

Wednesday 23. of June 2010

About sixty parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends joined the girls of No.8 for a barbecue and concert on Saturday 19th June. Conditions were slightly chilly but an excellent meal was enjoyed in the garden, where there were also games and activities.

Moving indoors we all then enjoyed a splendid concert, which included items of music and readings, from the youngest to the eldest members of the House. Olivia Darby, Clare Ho and Sarah Ashcroft from the FY and Keni Ndili, Natasha Mladentseva and Philippa Vandome from the Remove all performed items of piano, singing or acting. Three of our pre-IB girls then read a poem, which they had written themselves about their very positive experiences of No.8 this year before one of them, Josephine Steidl, showed what a talented pianist she is with two most enjoyable pieces, including a version of "What a wonderful world". We were then treated to a lilting Portuguese folk song by Jennifer Simpson, who left the House last year but kindly agreed to return to sing for us. The concert concluded with a stirring performance of "Softly Awakes my Heart" by Beth Lloyd on the trumpet, accompanied by George Lacey.

Every year since the formation of the House in 2003, the girls have put together a Summer Concert and this is one of the most enjoyable occasions of the Summer term. We are already looking forward to next year!
