House 6 are Culture Shocked!

26 January 2009

The start of the Year saw students from Number 6 returning from far and wide bringing a huge range of costumes, sweets, food and artefacts with them from home. The reason was of course the newly revived “Cultureshock” event, and as possibly the most culturally diverse House in the College, Number 6 were intending to make the most of this opportunity.

Deenah, Alina, Kavita and Devangi along with Deputy Housemistress Mrs Vanessa Rice all looked stunning in their variously coloured and beaded saris and dresses. They offered Henna tattoos, bindis and bracelets as well as a wide range of foods and snacks. All very popular!

Prior to the event a large number of the girls had spent the afternoon creating a wide range of foods from the Ukraine (Valeriya V and Julia Eroshina) and Brazil (Margarita Cesar) as well as Malaysia (Li Chun Tan – ably helped by Amanda Bruce) The smells were mouth watering and the finished products didn’t last long at all at the final event!

Pelin Ural brought back perhaps the widest range of Turkish sweets any of us have ever seen (proof that it is more than the pink sticky Turkish delight we all remember from Christmas stockings in the past!)

All in all Number 6 was represented at the following stands:
Arab states including Oman (Mimi Al Zakwani) Russia and Ukraine (Julia Eroshina and Val Voshevskya) Spain (Carmen Caudra) Brazil (Margarita Cesar) Turkey (Pelin Ural) Italy (India Enni) Germany (Elsa Eggens, Jana Wehling, Steffi Puttemann, Katy and Vicky Voss, Anna Geuther, Sarah Kriegbaum, ) Malaysia (Li Chun Tan) India/Pakistan (Deenah, Kavita, Devangi and Alina) Argentina (Ghabby Cruz-Amorim)
